DONCASTER Market has been named the best in Britain by industry experts.
The outdoor market established 800 years ago beat off dozens of others across the country to lift the prestigious title.
The award was organised by the National Association of British Markets, which praised Doncaster for the variety and quality of goods offered and for its success in attracting thousands of visitors each year.
Roy Dean, Doncaster’s town centre manager, picked up the gong at a ceremony in Birmingham.
He said: “ We were really delighted when it was announced that Doncaster had won the award.
“ It is a really hard-fought prize which received more entries than ever before.”
Mayor Peter Davies says more money will be ploughed into the re-vamped market.
