Doncaster could be hit by a rail strike, with a ballot due this month.

Rail union RMT confirmed today that it is to ballot nearly 1,400 members on Virgin East Coast, which runs the borough’s main link to London and Edinburgh, over the sacking of a sacked worker.

The union is unhappy with the company’s disciplinary procedures that led his dismissal from his job in Edinburgh by the company over a missing electronic book reader from a train he was working on.

It is distributing voting papers to all those in the company working in onboard catering, guards, station and ticket office grades on Monday 12th October 2105. The ballot will close on Tuesday 27th October 2015

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said:“We have no option but to begin balloting across Virgin East Coast from Monday for both strike action and action short of a strike. The union remains available for talks.”
