Members of Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce have half a dozen reasons to celebrate after businesses in the area scooped six gongs at the City Region Awards.

The annual ceremony celebrates the ‘best of the best’ in the region and five Barnsley and Rotherham firms were honoured at a glittering awards bash in Sheffield on July 2.

Chamber patron Westfield Health took home two honours, the Customer Service Award and the Overall Outstanding Award.

Barnsley College won the SCR Corporate Social Responsibility Award and Rotherham-based S3 ID, which provides cutting edge location awareness technology, walked away with the Export Award.

Osborne Technologies in Dodowrth collected the Design and Innovation Award for the development of their ‘SensoryPod’ product, a unique learning pod developed for youngsters with special needs.

Charlotte Scothern from Rotherham-based gift shop Patchwork Pig went on to win the SCR Retail, Leisure and Tourism Award after launching a successful website that has seen the business grow.

Tom Matthews from Rotherham-based Tata Steel was named Apprentice of the Year.

Andrew Denniff, executive director of the chamber, said, “It was very apparent that the standard across the region has improved considerably over the past two years.

“The success of some of our own members in Barnsley and Rotherham has to be applauded, but the real winners were all the businesses and individuals recognised at the event, all of who have contributed to the growing success of our region’s economy.”
