MORE than 50 students have been raising funds to help send books to Africa.

The books are going to the The Hlekweni Centre in Zimbabwe, 20km from the city of Bulawayo, founded in 1967 to tackle problems with young school leavers who were unable to continue schooling or find work.

Some books are to go to Samathanga Primary School, which has strong links with the centre.

Doncaster College became involved when Kate Parr, college additional support tutor for access, heard of the centre’s plight and the idea.

Students have created booklets and raised money to help the centre’s plight.
