A blooming marvellous time was had by an award winning couple as they struck gold at one of the country’s foremost flower shows.

Proud owners of Taylors Clematis Nursery, of Sutton Road in Askern, Chris and Suzy Cocks, realised tulips were better than one as they congratulated one another with a kiss after winning Premier Gold at the Harrogate Flower Show for the third time in 15 years.

For the past seven years Chris said they had won gold at the show held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, but the premier award had eluded them during that period. This time the budding floral geniuses’ clematis display wowed the judges and the top trophy was theirs, immediately putting them in the top four exhibitors in the whole show.

Chris said: “It’s the first time that we have exhibited clematis as a cut flower at any show. We put them as a centre display in three goldfish bowls. The judges and the public had never seen this before, and hopefully now it will encourage florist shops to start stocking clematis to use in arrangements and bouquets.

“We will now be launching a new clematis to be used as a cut flower at Chelsea Flower Show – May 19 to 23 – and it will be called ‘Amazing London’.”

He added: “As one of the best Premier Gold medal winners, with floral categories and well over 100 exhibitors in each section of the hall, we also received a solid silver cup. This was a great achievement and we are so proud of this.”
