STAFF at an Epworth supermarket donned fancy dress and tuned into a ‘Rock Around the Clock’ theme as they aimed for a record breaking year of charity fundraising.

The Co-operative staff were hoping to hit the right note with unpaid young adult carers, as they announced their new charity of the year as the Carers Trust.

To mark the launch, staff donned teddy boy wigs for the Rock Around the Clock theme – intended to be a reference to the 24-hours-a-day nature of the challenges facing young carers who look after a loved one.

Joanne Bail, manager of the Epworth store, said: “We’re delighted that Carers Trust is our charity of the year and, that we have the chance to make a difference to the lives of young people in our communities who undertake practical and emotional caring responsibilities for a family member or friend who cannot cope without their support.”

This year, The Co-operative’s 100,000 staff nationwide aim to raise £5 million for the charity.
