CASH is up for grabs to deserving groups across Thurnscoe and the surrounding area.

Bidding is once again open for money from the Keepmoat’s Community Fund - an initiative which aims to deliver £100,000 to the community.

Keepmoat Homes will, for the second time, invest up to £500 in organisations which meet criteria set out by the Thurnscoe Alliance – a group of active community representatives and key stakeholders in the area.

The first round of applications to the fund took place in late 2011. Successful bidders attended an awarding event at Keepmoat Homes’ Seasons development, that was built in partnership with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Chevin Housing Group, Berneslai Homes and the Homes and Communities Agency.

A total of £3,500 was awarded to a variety of groups, and a full £500 went to a select few, including The Hill School at Thurnscoe, Goldthorpe Reform WMC Juniors, Dearne Advanced Learning Centre, and About Building Communities.

Ian Ball, project manager for the Hickleton Youth Project that is based at Thurnscoe and received a £500 bursary, said: “Our project engages young people through the youth club, which provides programmes such as healthy living, cook and eat, sports activities and arts and crafts.

“The funding we received helped to fund a trip to London during which the young people visited Downing Street and enjoyed a tour of the Houses of Parliament, learning more about the importance of democracy and its impact on people’s lives. The trip had a huge impact on the group and everyone came away full of ideas of how to improve the youth project and better themselves in the future.”

Now the fund criteria has been altered so that even more organisations can benefit from it.

Sarah Lock, partnership and land co-ordinator at Keepmoat and a member of the Thurnscoe Alliance, said: “Following the fantastic response we had back in 2011, it only seemed right that we try to open funding up to more groups. There are so many deserving organisations.”

Those who wish to apply for the Keepmoat Community Fund should call 01302 341 005 or email partnerships@keepmoathomes.co.uk. Applications will close on July 31.
