MORE than 160 Doncaster Council tenants have been able to access additional benefits because of changes by the Government.
St Leger Homes, which manages about 21,000 homes for Doncaster Council, including thousands across the Thorne Gazette district, and the council’s housing benefit team identified that the tenants were likely to be able to claim Housing and Council Tax Benefit after changes to benefit calculations.
The Government stopped counting Child Benefit as an income, so 169 tenants were eligible for benefits or extra benefits.
These tenants could between them tap into £518,965 from additional and retrospective benefit.
In future, additional benefits will make them, on average, £56 a week better off, St Leger Homes said.
