DONCASTER Council has announced it has launched an online library service in the same week two of the borough’s libraries have been forced to close.
Carcroft Library shut its doors for the final time yesterday with Denaby Library closing the day before as part of the council’s proposal to axe over half of the borough’s sites because of dwindling customer numbers.
The authority has this week announced plans to “improve and modernise its library service” in a bid to attract people who do not use it by launching a new online digital library service yesterday.
The service will provide 24-hour access to hundreds of titles seven days a week, the council said.
Up to five e-books and audiobooks can be downloaded for free by visiting www.doncaster.gov.uk/digitallibrary
Downloads can be transferred to devices such as iPods and iPads.
