A HISTORIC building formerly owned by Doncaster Council was targeted by arsonists in a morning attack.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the The Priory, in High Street, Conisbrough, after vandals set paper stored on the ground floor alight.
Crews from Edlington, Denaby and Maltby spent over two hours tackling the blaze on Saturday.
The Grade II listed building, a former St Leger Homes housing office, was sold by the authority earlier this year.
Fire bosses said there was no major damage to the 19th century building, which has been fenced off since St Leger moved out of the building in April 2009.
Officers arrived around 10.25am before leaving the scene at 1pm.
