GREEN-FINGERED youngsters dug deep to plant hundreds of trees for a bloomin’ marvellous school project.

Hatfield Manor Junior School planted over 800 trees as part of the national Britain in Bloom scheme run in conjunction with the Royal Horticultural Society.

Over the last two years the school has planted more than 1,200 whips in its Cuckoo Lane grounds. Every child helped to plant at least two trees each.

Hatfield Travis Infants School was also invited to take part.

The school was joined by a countryside ranger, Natural England as well as maintenance workers, council officers and parents.
