IT’s great news that one of Mexborough’s oldest traditional pubs, the Ferryboat Inn, has been rescued.
And it is even better news that it has been bought independently on a freehold basis.
Never a week goes by without pub after pub going to the wall, being demolished for flats, or left with the shutters whistling in the wind.
As our Conisbrough correspondent Wendy Collins, reported Denaby lost its last pub when the Tavern closed its doors last month.
This followed the closure of the Reresby Arms and the Denaby Main Hotel.
Swinton lost The Ship, another ancient watering hole. So lets hope the Ferryboat can weather the storms besetting the industry and play its part in keeping the local community alive.
