a LANDLADY’S almost un-bear-able challenge has helped her towards a £2000 target for Help for Heroes.

Simone Foster-Jowett of the Anglers’ Rest, Wombwell, donned a big teddy-bear head to attract attention to her sponsored walk on Saturday.

The game landlady set off from Dodworth Road on her 10-mile trek around Barnsley, through the town centre and back to her Park Street pub, while bearing the very heavy head.

She made it home in 26,396 steps, as verified for a competition run by Anglers’ regulars, and raised £280.80, to bring her Help for Heroes total up to £1665.

Simone hopes to raise £2000 for the charity by the end of the year. The pub hosts a charity jewellery party on Saturday, and a further fundraiser on September 16.

Simone said: “My legs felt like lead after the walk but it was totally worth it.” She is also thrilled that the Anglers’ Rest has made the Good Beer Guide for the second year.
