A MOORENDS man claims he cannot afford to continue living in the village after a spate of attacks on his vehicle.
William Kirk (64) of Bloomhill Grove told the Gazette than in two-and-a-half years he has three cars vandalised and two stolen, and that enough is enough.

In the latest incident, which took place on May 29, Mr Kirk's Rover 214 had its tyres slashed and paint stripper poured on it.

"I rang the police, as I have done every other time and all I got was a crime number, no-one seems to be doing a great deal in stopping these attacks," Mr Kirk said.

"Nothing has happened in two-and-a-half-years."

He claimed that elsewhere on the same street people have had brake pipes on their cars cut, while his vehicles had a brick through the windscreen and two stolen completely.

"Nobody seems to do much about it. I've been living here for 15 to 20 years and I think it's getting worse, a damn site worse.

"They say they're getting more police officers out on the streets but where are they?

"These sorts of things never seemed to happen ten years ago.

"I can't afford to stay here."

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed that a report was received at 7.45am on May 29 that between 9.30pm on May 28 and 7am on May 29 a silver Rover parked on Bloomhill Grove in Moorends had some sort of paint stripper poured over it and had two tyres slashed.

On November 5 last year a silver Rover parked in the same street had its windscreen broken.

The spokesman told the Gazette: "Overall crime in South Yorkshire is at its lowest level for three years."

Anyone with information is asked to phone 01142 20 20 20 quoting incident number 201 of May 29.
