SPEED checks are being carried out in the Thorne and Moorends areas in an attempt to slow down drivers.
Vehicles will be clocked at specific hot spots where in the past a high number have been caught travelling at excessive speeds.

The digital speed display unit is being used across the area with Police Community Support Officers and Doncaster Counc
il Community Safety Wardens carrying out speed checks.

The checks are done for an hour period at a time, with the last location being on Marshland Road in Moorends. Over 100 vehicles passed through the checkpoint in an hour with 20 vehicles travelling in excess of the 30 mile per hour speed limit.

The safer neighbourhood team staff recorded the speeds and registration numbers resulting in over 100 letters being sent out warning speeding motorists and advising on road safety.

One vehicle was seized after going through a check at over 50 mile per hour after previously being dealt with for driving erratically within the same 12 months. It was therefore seized under the Police Reform Act 2002.

Police Community Support Officer Andrew Grix said: "This operation increased the drivers' awareness of their speed and will encourage them to slow down. This is an ongoing operation and will continue.

"The safer neighbourhood teams always act on the concerns of the residents to increase the quality of life and safety within their community."
