CARLY BODMAN has taken the first step towards a career in what has traditionally been regarded as a man's world.
Carly (18) from Dunscroft, has gained a place on Doncaster College's top plumbing course after changing her career focus 15 months ago.

Originally studying travel and tourism, Carly decided to switch to a more hands on role and has whizzed through the Fresh Start course.

"I had previously been doing travel and tourism at another college but I wasn't very academic and wasn't enjoying it – I'm more of a hands-on person," she said.

Carly enrolled into the Fresh Start course and is one of the first students to progress onto a mainstream course.

She will now take on a new plumbing apprenticeship programme starting in September.

Carly added: "I've had a bit of stick about being a girl but I really like doing it and I can't wait to start my apprenticeship in September."

The Fresh Start programme is designed for youngsters aged 16-19 not currently studying or in full-time employment.
