A NEW business has moved into the former MFI warehouse in Thorne a year after the company went into administration.
DHL, who own the building, have confirmed that a new customer has taken over part of the mammoth 750,000 sq ft distribution centre after MFI left the warehouse at the beginning of this year.

When MFI moved out of the warehouse, it was reported tha
t 350 jobs were under threat.

A spokesman for DHL said: "The new customer has moved in and we are continuing to source other customers for the rest of the warehouse. No further contracts have been signed.

"Three hundred and fifty staff went through a consultation process the majority were redeployed through the network and those who were not were offered support such as help with CV writing."

The spokesman refused to reveal the name of the company who are understood to have moved into the £65m warehouse in the summer.

MFI went into administration in November 2008, stating that the downturn in the property market and "severe cash flow pressure" had led to their difficulties.

The distribution centre had been leased to MFI on a ten-year contract at a value of just over £3 million a year.

Doncaster MP Ed Miliband opened the warehouse, located off Junction 6 of the M18, in December 2007 after selecting Thorne for its good motorway connections.
