A THORNE student has been rewarded for a seven-year unblemished record for attending school.
Jake Hepworth, a pupil at Trinity Academy, has not missed a single day nor been late for school once since his last years at primary school.

The 15-year-old's dedication was recognised with the presentation of a certificate and a £50 gift card at an assembly marking the end of term for Year 11 students.

Jake built up his 100 per cent attendance during the three years that the Academy has been open, two years previously at Thorne Grammar School and two years at Brooke Primary School in the town.

He said: "There have been days when I have come to school with a cold or a headache so I could maintain my record. I have been quite determined not to miss a day.

"I think everyone should aim for 100 per cent attendance because it goes down on your school record and shows employers that you will be committed to your job."

Before arriving at the Academy in the morning, Jake gets up early to lift weights or to go running.

Diane Gallagher, the Academy's attendance officer, said: "We are seeing an upward trend generally in attendance at the Academy but Jake's record is a remarkable achievement."

Jake, a keen guitarist who plays in a band called Hypnosis, will join the Academy sixth form in September to study A levels in ICT, business and media.

Ian Brew, Academy Principal, said: "We have a number of students who have a 100 per cent attendance record but Jake's is extra special because he has maintained it for so long.

"He sets a fine example to other students and deserves the recognition for his self-imposed dedication to his education.

"I am also grateful to his parents who have supported and encouraged him and understand that missing even one day of school can be a disadvantage to their child."

Other Year 11 students who were recognised for their 100 per cent attendance record this school year were: Gregg Atkinson, Joseph Duffin, Gemma Eddleston, Connor Henry, Katie Hunter, Shaun Mattocks, Daniel
Munn, Elizabeth Tiffancy, Adam Walker and Lucy Woods.
