ON Saturday, December 16, Thorne-Moorends Community Radio received an official visit by the Mayor, Coun. Margaret Holt-Taylor, on their first open day to the public.
The Mayor congratulated the volunteer members on their enthusiasm to enable Thorne and Moorends to have its own radio station back on the air in 2007 with two four-week licences followed by the all-important five-year licence.
The Mayor made a pers
onal donation to the group, as did many of the visitors to the studio. This very successful open day helped not only to raise some vital funding but several visitors expressed a wish to help by being programme presenters or to help with administration work and other things such as answering the telephones.
Don't worry if you were unable to visit the radio station's first open day; another is being planned for February with more to follow.
In the meantime, if you are down at Finkle Court and see the shutters up at number five, usually on a Monday and Wednesday afternoon, please call in for a chat.
You can request a favourite tune or song to be played for you in the studio, or perhaps even operate the equipment yourself or help with practice interviews, especially other voluntary groups who would be interested in being mentioned or possibly a special feature, when the station returns back live on air hopefully in July/August and December/January, 2008.
