A BOY racer's car has been seized after he was caught driving at nearly twice the speed limit in a built-up area.
Police took the 18-year-old's red Vauxhall Corsa off the roads after the teenager was clocked doing more than 50mph in a 30mph zone.

The seizure came as part of a crackdown against speeding motorists in Thorne and Moorends.

In the latest oper
ation one in five drivers were caught breaking the 30mph limit.

Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) and Doncaster Council wardens have been carrying out speed checks across the area for an hour at a time.

At the last location in Marshland Road, Moorends, more than 100 vehicles travelled through the checkpoint, with 20 breaking the speed limit.

The Corsa was seized because the driver had previously being dealt with for driving erratically in the last year.

The teenager had to produce documents proving he was the owner of the car and pay to recover it.

So far more than 100 warning letters have been sent to motorists advising them on road safety.

PCSO Andrew Grix said: "This operation increased drivers awareness of speed and will encourage them to slow down.

"This is an ongoing operation and will continue."
