Rachael says you beauty following competition win
AN aspiring model has walked off with a top award from a beauty pageant after impressing her fellow competitors with her helpful manner.
The sparkling personality and stunning looks of Rachael Jayne Hill helped her clinch the title of Miss Community United Kingdom Congeniality in the finals of the Miss Community 2012 event,
For Rachael, of Fieldside, Epworth, the beauty pageant was her first real date with the catwalk.
The 21-year-old beat off scores of hopefuls to clinch the title.
She said: “I really enjoyed the whole thing. The girl who won the outright contest, Hannah Hunter, helped me with my make-up and gave me tips. It was all so friendly and not a trace of bitchiness anywhere.
“I was picked for the Miss Community Congeniality title because I got on well with everyone and was helpful, I was told. All the contestants are allowed to vote in this section.”
Miss Community was set up by international beauty queen Natalie Marie Mitchell to raise money for charity and give hopefuls their chance to make it in the modelling industry.
To be eligible to take part Rachael had to write to organisers and impress them with her previous fundraising exploits.
Rachael, a call centre worker at BT in Doncaster, had to take part in five rounds - include white showcase, fun fashion, talent, beach and summer wear and evening wear - with points out of ten awarded.
At the event in Huddersfield, the former Haxey Primary and South Axholme School pupil raised money for Cancer Research UK.
She added: “My favourite of the five rounds was the evening wear. I wore a lovely designer Piamichi black dress loaned to me by Leesa at Posh Frocks of Epworth. I was given a tiara and a sash that I now have at home, and it’s really made me want to take part in more competitions. This one raised money for breast cancer research too which is a very worthwhile cause.”
On Saturday Rachael will be involved in another beauty-related fundraising event for a charity called Bullies Out.
She said: “For £25 I will have a mini-portfolio and will learn the poise and grace of the catwalk. It’s organised by Leanne Woodhall, from the family of the pageant organisers. I’m hoping that it will be really useful to me and of course it’s for a good cause too.”
