RAIL enthusiasts were right on track when they steamed into Doncaster for an extravaganza of miniature marvels.

The Festival of British Railway Modelling arrived at Doncaster Racecourse for two days of fun, with thousands of visitors descending on the town for the steam spectacular.

Visitors young and old enjoyed a wide variety of attractions and layouts capturing the golden age of railways - as well as more modern sets.

A spokesman said: “Doncaster’s tradition with railways provided a brilliant venue for a first rate modelling event.

“It was a wonderful event for those with an interest in railway modelling.”

Those attending were able to enjoy more than 30 top-quality layouts in a variety of gauges, more than 80 exhibitors and a host of new features for 2013.

Queues formed outside the racecourse early, with rail buffs keen to catch a glimpse of some of the mini models on show.

There was also a chance for modellers to get their hands on rare and unusual items, with a range of exhibitors stocking everything for model railway enthusiasts.

For younger visitors, there was a children’s area where youngsters were able to enjoy interactive activities including a colouring competition.

And children were able to have a go at driving a train on one of the exhibition’s two children’s layouts.
