How to beat the blues

With the Olympics and Jubilee celebrations over, the days darkening rapidly and the kids grumbling about going back to school, this September a forward-planning hotel in the northern Lake District is launching a brand new package to combat those predictable post-summer blues.

Throughout September Overwater Hall in Ireby is hoping to tempt couples away for a spirit-boosting feast of treats before the British winter really kicks in.

Blues will be banished instantly with Overwater’s welcoming hamper filled to the brim with tasty treats from around the region including a selection of local chutneys, jams and pickles, locally produced handmade chocolate truffles and a complimentary bottle of the local tipple from Jennings Brewery.

Nestled within its own private grounds, guests will instantly feel their tensions easing as they enter Overwater’s imposing driveway and enjoy a welcome glass of champagne in the magnificent 18th century hall.

A multitude of all-weather activities can be enjoyed around the region ensuring guests leave feeling refreshed and revived. From walking, cycling and wildlife spotting to theatre, shopping or simply soaking up the spectacular views over a good book or two, Overwater is the ideal base from which to relieve the post summer blues.

As part of the package guests will be able to enjoy a candlelit three course meal in the hotel’s award winning restaurant that is sure to blow away the blues. With a wide range of local food produce on offer including fresh fish from the Solway firth, locally farmed meats from Richard Harrison of Wigton and genuinely free range eggs from Roland Watson and son of Aspatria, dining at Overwater is a delight for food lovers - guests can even order Overwater’s Solway Lobster Thermidor and a glass of something fizzy for a truly decadent treat!

The post-summer blues package cost £280 per couple per night. A minimum two night stay is required. For further information visit www.overwaterhall.co.uk.
