Folk legend features in Lions fundraiser

TIME is running out to get your tickets to see a folk music legend who is performing in the Isle later this month - all in the name of charity.

Isle of Axholme Lions present Jimmie MacGregor’s Gathering of ongs, Stories and Famous Folk on Saturday September 22 at Haxey Memorial Hall.

The licensed bar will be available from 7pm and the show starts at 7.30pm.

Jimmie smiles to see and hear himself regularly described as ‘legend, ‘veteran’ etc, but he is widely acknowledged as a seminal influence in the folk music revival.

His partnership with Robin Hall led to a 4 year stint on BBC’s Tonight programme, leading to concerts in the Albert and Festival halls, world tours and more than 20 record albums.

When the famous duo broke up Jimmie went on to a new career as an award-winning radio and TV presenter and writer.

His Radio Scotland programme, ‘Macgregor’s Gathering’ ran daily for 11 years, and he went on to make radio and TV programmes on long distance walks in Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Yosemite and the Arctic, with accompanying books.

With an MBE and a string of awards and fellowships under his belt, Jimmie is as active as ever, and his one man show, ‘Jimmie Macgregor’s Gathering of Songs Stories and Famous Folk’ (John Wayne, Liz Taylor etc) demonstrates his humour and talent as a relaxed and likeable communicator. Tickets are priced at £12.50 available from Epworth News or via Lion James on 01427 872495.

The event is supporting Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
