THE two day Racing Post Trophy meeting, which starts tomorrow Friday, October 21, and the flat season finale Betfred November Handicap on Saturday, November 5, are the latest set of prestigious race meetings scheduled to take place at Doncaster Racecourse - with the start of the new National Hunt season at Town Moor to follow on November 25.
Twelve months ago, the Princess Royal graced Doncaster for the Racing Post Trophy while king of the track Frankie Dettori also managed to lay on a regal performance for a packed house at Town Moor, romping home on Casamento in the feature race on Saturday.
Dramatically, the traditional end of season finale November Handicap also provided an incredible final day cliff-hanger last year, with Yorkshire based Paul Hanagan clinching the Jockey’s Championship from star performer, Richard Hughes.
This time around race goers can expect another action packed three days of racing across the two fixtures, with track favourite Hanagan once again leading the charge in the Jockey’s Championship.
On the opening day of the Racing Post Trophy meeting, gates open at 12 noon and the first race gets underway at 2pm. There will be a packed programme of action before the the seven race card concludes at 5.25pm. The timings are almost identical the following day, with the last race getting off a little earlier at 5.20pm.
The main feature race of the meeting, Saturday’s Group 1 Racing Post Trophy, kicks off at 3pm. As it stands almost 100 runners are on the slate for this prestigious race alone and the final field will be another strong renewal with some of the best runners and riders in the world battling it out.
On Betfred November Handicap day, the first race starts at 12.50pm with the last at 4.10pm. In the Jockey’s Championship Paul Hanagan currently leads Kieren Fallon by 12 wins with Silvestre De Sousa and Richard Hughes next in line. There’s every chance that once again, Town Moor and thousands of race goers will be treated to another grandstand finish.
A wide variety of ticket and hospitality options are available for both meetings. For more visit www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk or call 01302 304200.
