I write to profess my deep disgust at the way the people who are employed by Thorne Town Council carry out their duties at the local Cemetery.

There is a lack of care and respect shown to their surroundings and the people who visit it.

The Council employs local prisoners to work there and they walk around chewing gum, spitting it out and work half naked and use it as an excuse to chat up any female who passes their way.

The grass goes uncut around the graves, and the cremation plot and bushes are allowed to grow unchecked and there are empty drink cans and alcohol bottles carelessly tossed around.

Surely our deceased deserve more respect than this - come on make the cemetery shine!

Perhaps instead of writing in to complain to the local paper, this reader could have expressed their concerns to the prison or the council, as there are measures which can be taken in order to prevent these 'alleged' indiscretions taking place. I know for a fact that the prisoners do not as the reader has said, walk round half naked not caring about anything that they do, in fact, some of the Prisoners that the council have employed (in the past, and currently) are some of the most caring of people towards the surroundings that they find themselves working in, and take great pride in the work they do. Yes, they may see it as an excuse to talk to the local young ladies, but on that count, how many workmen who find themselves working in the Thorne area try to chat up the local young ladies? I await the readers response.
