new British citizens were given a warm welcome at a special ceremony.

Civic mayor Councillor Christine Mills was delighted to welcome new British citizens to the Mansion House.

As part of the historic ceremony the new citizens made an oath or affirmation to Her Majesty the Queen and a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom.

As well as being welcomed into the local community, at the Mansion House ceremony they have the chance to meet other people in the area who are also becoming British citizens.

Speaking about the event Councillor Christine Mills, said: “I was delighted to welcome new citizens to our borough and am pleased that people continue to choose Doncaster as their new home.

“Well done to all of those who took part for their hard work in preparation for the ceremony.

“Doncaster is a welcoming place and I wish them every success in their new lives here.” The taking of a new citizenship oath and pledge is a legal requirement and the key moment at which citizenship is conferred. New citizens are then called up one at a time to receive their certificate and information pack.
