A MEMORIAL plaque has been unveiled to honour those who died during a World War Two air raid in the borough.

The town suffered its worst bombing on the night of May 9, 1941, in which 16 people were killed, 73 injured, 13 houses destroyed and over 400 other homes damaged by the mine blast after it was dropped by a parachute over Balby.

The families of those who died came together with mayor Peter Davies to unveil a memorial plaque at Rose Hill Cemetery in Cantley Lane, Cantley - the place where those that died were buried.

Mr Davies said: “It is Doncaster’s tribute to those who tragically lost their lives and to their families who were left mourning their loss.”
