AN early years facility linked to a Dearne primary school has received a ‘good’ Ofsted inspection.

Fun 4U2, based at Wath Central Primary School, received the second highest rating, following a recent inspection. The out-of-school and holiday club was re-registered in March this year, as a limited company. It is run from the school hall and uses a secure outdoor play area.

Inspectors found that children enjoy activities and make good progress in development and learning. Their individual interests are catered for and progress recorded. Early writing skills and language development are fostered well and children play “happily in harmony”, receiving lots of praise and encouragement. Staff are “quick to spot any children who are concerned or upset, supporting them sympathetically and effectively.”

And a wide range of creative options include dressing up, dough play, crayons, glitter, bubble and collage activities. Eating breakfast and snacks is a “positive social experience” said inspectors and the club promotes healthy eating and choices.

Parents and carers are kept fully informed about their child’s day and a notice board adds to this information.

Staff are seen to have secure understanding of the club’s safeguarding children procedures, and a well-organised play environment promotes children’s feelings of safety.

To further improve the facilities, inspectors recommend that all staff use children’s contributions to shape the direction of discussions. They suggest further developing the book area to ensure children and adults can enjoy books together, with story props such as puppets to encourage children to think about how characters feel.

It was noted that the manager carries out regular performance monitoring and makes sure each staff member is motivated with individual professional development plans.

Provision for children was found to be good in all categories.
