The deputy head of Wath Comprehensive school has spoken for the first time to praise pupils who achieved their best ever GCSE results.

The school was sixth in the Rotherham table with its 65 per cent pass rate at the higher grades, up from 56 per cent last year.

Rick Powell Deputy Head Teacher said: “We are very pleased - they are the best results the school has ever had.

“Our value added score was really high at 1,016 and we were top in Rotherham , with 23 per cent of pupils achieving the English Baccalaureate. The sixth form did really well, coming third in the borough for A Level points per candidate.

“We are also really pleased with the sixth form average points score of 846.5.”
