THREE media students have been working on a video with Doncaster Royal Infirmary to raise awareness of skin cancer.

Doncaster College creative media students Adam Holloway, Michael Burton and Samantha Oldcroft as well as college media lecturer Dean Ayres, have been working to create a short film about the disease with help from the dermatology department at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Network Rail.

The video idea came into fruition after Network Rail site manager Carl Scattergood was diagnosed with skin cancer. He wanted to raise awareness for his colleagues at work and got the hospital department on-board.

The college then became involved with the campaign when Carl contacted Mr Ayers directly seeking help to create the video.

The three students, studying a creative media production level three diploma, helped with camera work and editing.

It is hoped the video will be used by Network Rail as an awareness campaign on a national scale.

Mr Ayers said: “On our TV and film course we try to ensure that all learners gain some externally sourced experience during their time at college.

“It is important that our course offers this as a way to improve their developing skills, confidence and career opportunities.”
