Primary supports campaign to stop school bullying

FEELINGS circles and ‘worry boxes’ are just some of the ways a school is promoting its stance against bullying.
Green Top Primary School in Thorne took part in the week-long national campaign to tackle bullying by holding activities for children to reassure them if they feel unhappy.
Don Valley MP Caroline Flint, Doncaster Rovers coaches and police and fire crews also came into the school in Middlebrook Lane to show their support for the campaign.
Headteacher Neil Butler said the week of activities, where children also wore blue to represent the national campaign’s colour, was also an opportunity to show its pupils, parents and teachers how far they have come in terms of stamping out school bullying.
He said: “When I arrived here about 11 months ago the school had a bit of a bad reputation for bad behaviour so we’ve made a point of making sure we turn that around and make the school a positive and safe place.
“The pupils feel reassured because they can now go to lots of different people for help if they are sad. Each class holds ‘feelings circles’ so pupils can express themselves and also post any worries they have in a box in school. There’s lots of ways to show how we don’t tolerate bullying and that we support every child in any way that we can.”
