One-stop history shop

an archives and local studies unit will re-open next month after a three-month closure.

On October 1, the Rotherham service will re-open on the ground floor of Clifton Park Museum after the re-location of services and the closure of some Council buildings earlier this year.

As a number of items are now stored off-site, staff will be happy to deal with enquiries and advise customers on the location of specific items and if pre-ordering is required. Alternatively they can be contacted on 01709 336632.

From October 1 the service will resume its full enquiry service and will be in a position to consider donations to the collection. If anyone has an enquiry or would like to offer a donation please email archives@rotherham.gov.uk.

Further information about the service can be obtained by visiting the Rotherham Borough Council website on www.rotherham.gov.uk/archives and for those wishing to make a visit the opening hours will be: Monday from 1pm to 5pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday - 10am to 5pm, Saturday - 10am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm. There is no service on either Friday or Sunday.

The much-loved York and Lancaster Regimental Museum will also move in to Clifton Park Museum in the new year - making the building a ‘one-stop shop’ for Rotherham’s history. Anyone wanting further information about the regimental museum should contact it on yorkandlancsmuseum@rotherham.gov.uk

Coun. Amy Rushforth, Rotherham’s cabinet member for culture and tourism, said it is a new era for the archives and local studies service.

She said: “Now the public can look forward to a more comprehensive service at the ‘one-stop shop’ that is Clifton Park Museum.”
