A NEW workshop has been launched at a Doncaster school to provide health information to young people.

School nurses, who work for Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber NHS Trust (RDaSH), have launched Good Sense of Health at Danum Academy and each month will cover different topics such as puberty, drugs and bullying.

The aim of the workshops is that young people with any questions about health issues can drop by to get the help and information they need.

RDaSH student school nurse Jackie Talbot said: “The workshops will help promote and protect the physical health and emotional well-being of children and young people who attend the school.

“Young people’s experience of school nurses can be limited to seeing them at immunisation sessions. We are working to make ourselves more visible in school. Easier access to healthcare is a vital factor in helping young people take responsibility for their own health.”

Jodie Southgate, first aider at Danum, said: “It’s really good that the pupils are being offered these drop in sessions. It means they can talk to nurses about health issues they would not like asking the teachers about.”
