Four people who spent a night with the lions at Yorkshire Wildlife Park raised more than £1,200 for charity.

Ex-soldier Kristian Reynolds, aged 36, from Misterton, shop assistant Susan Brown, 52, campaigner Simon Woodburn, 20, and student Abby Richardson, 19, were chosen from hundreds of applicants to bed down with the park’s resident lions in aid of Comic Relief.

They spent a night in the lions enclosure, in Branton, with only a grate between them and the big cats.

Park director Cheryl Williams said: “They were all so brave! And we are really grateful for all the work they did to raise funds for Comic Relief. A big thank you to them all from us here.”

The event was organised to mark the third anniversary of the lions’ arrival.
