National trailblazers in line for top health gong
Specialist Healthy Lifestyle Midwives Carolyn Garland and Alison Williams have been shortlisted for an award recognising innovations that could transform the NHS.
TWO midwives from Doncaster have been shortlisted for an award for their innovative work helping pregnant women who struggle with their weight.
Specialist healthy lifestyle Midwives Carolyn Garland and Alison Williams of Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Foundation Trust help pregnant women improve their eating habits and begin exercise.
The service launched three years ago in Doncaster but proved so successful it has now been rolled out across Bassetlaw.
Carolyn and Alison’s work has seen them shortlisted for a Medipex NHS Innovation Award.
Deirdre Fowler, head of midwifery at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Carolyn and Alison have led the way nationally with this trailblazing service that has transformed the way the NHS cares for pregnant women who have struggled with their weight. The benefits of the support they provide in helping women adopt healthier lifestyles include fewer complications for them and their babies.”
The pair will find out whether they have won on October 11.
