Pupils who have shown a real commitment to their community have been rewarded in a leading’s school’s first ever “pride “ awards.

Year 8 students at Doncaster’s Hall Cross School have focused on becoming active citizens, highlighting what they see as problems where they live and coming up with solutions to them.

Paige Meadows, 12, picked up the top Pride of Hall Cross award for her work as a volunteer at Change Aid, a not-for-profit group that supports the borough’s homeless through shelter, education and work experience opportunities.

As a result of Paige’s win, the organisation received £200 which was raised at a year 8 non-uniform day. The cash was presented at a special awards ceremony at the school, which is split into the lower school site in St Michael’s Road, Bessacarr, and the upper school in Thorne Road in the town centre.

Runners-up in the Pride of Hall Cross awards were Lucy Hannan, aged 13, and Sanchia Roworth, 12, who have taken part in Race for Life raising thousands of pounds over several years for the chairty Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK received £100 from the school to helps towards its work as a result of being nominated by Lucy and Sanchia.
