SUPPORT is needed to aid the push to extend a community skatepark.

User group Area51 is appealing for residents to come forward and back their aim of expanding the park’s facilities based off Anchorage Lane in Sprotbrough.

The park, managed by Sprotbrough and Cusworth Parish Council, is regularly used by extreme sports enthusiasts of all ages whether they are into BMX riding, skateboarding or using their scooters.

Area51, a group run entirely by volunteers, has been working on ways to fund improvements to the park, offer day trips to youngsters and also put on annual competitions which bring in hundreds of people from all over the country.

The group has put on a display in Sprotbrough Library in Sprotbrough Road, and are appealing for people to offer feedback on the park facilities and in turn help boost their plans to extend the area.

Steve Gratton, chairman of Area51, said: “We organise competitions in summer and trips in winter, and have been tirelessly trying to improve and extend the current facilities at our park for the past few years.

“We would like to engage more of the community and gain their feedback to help establish what the public want us to do for them in the future.”
