DUNSCROFT Leek Club held their annual presentation evening last week.
Coun Beryl Harrison handed the trophies to the following for the pot leek - 1. Mr Charlie Thompson; 2. Mr William Temple; 3. Mr Jim Rigby; 4. Mrs Gill Denton.
Best Exhibit went to Mr Charlie Thompson with an Onion that scaled 11lbs-10ozs, which is the biggest ever recorded specimen within the district.
The committee thanked Beryl Harrison for her donation towards the Leek Club funds and also many thanks to Danton Homes' Pete Thompson who donated 1500 for prize money and sponsorship.
The Leek Club meet at Dunscroft Social Club (Ikeys) and the next meeting is Saturday September 29 at 7pm. New members are welcome.
Congratulations go to two local men who have secured contracts with Doncaster Belles.
Dunscroft-based Steve Gill has joined existing coach Andy Allchurch with the Doncaster Belles Under-18s team, with Paul Whittaker, also from Dunscroft, as next season's manager of the Under-10s.
The St Lawrence Road Centres Over 60's Club have five seats to spare on their trip to Dewsbury market on Wednesday October 1.
The coach leaves the Broadway Hotel at 9am and will depart Dewsbury at 5pm, with supper at the Flarepath. To book phone 01302 883264.
Vandals have smashed concrete bollards at Quarry Park, just months after saplings were destroyed.
