A COUPLE were treated like royalty as they renewed their vows after 48-years of marriage.

Sue and John Beaney said “I do” for the second time on the Saga Ruby cruise ship around the Canary Islands and north Africa in front of a collection of crew and specially invited guests.

Mrs Beaney, 69, and her husband, 70, had their ceremony at sunset while the ship was moored in Casablanca. It was conducted by captain Stephen Angove.

“It was utterley magical,” Mrs Beaney said. “They really pushed the boat out.

“There was so much love on that deck it was indescribable.

“We felt like celebrities because everyone was asking about the ceremony and taking pictures of us.

“Everyone was asking us if we were getting married and whether they could see my gown. I made my own top with cream trousers for the ceremony so wore it on the last night so people could see it.”

The couple originally got married in Sittingbourne in Kent, but moved to Epworth around 23-years-ago for Mr Beaney’s career in the farming industry.

It was the first wedding vow renewal the cruise ship had hosted and staff ensured the couple had the perfect day by having a personalised service written, providing flowers and a feast.
