Charity nets football club backing

Doncaster Rovers have gone pink to show their support this October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

RAISING awareness for breast cancer has scored support from Doncaster Rovers.

The League One outfit is helping to promote the Breast Cancer Awareness Care’s ‘Pink Friday’ campaign throughout October by wearing pink and encouraging fans to hold their own pink-themed event to show their support.

The club’s mascot Donny Dog was also a special guest when the Lakeside Village held its own Pink Friday event earlier this month.

The club said: “Doncaster Rovers like to recognise the hard work that charities put into the local community, and Breast Cancer Care is an exceptional example of a charity that does this. As we move into Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Charity runs its Pink Friday campaign, Doncaster Rovers urges you to follow our lead and turn your Friday Pink for this good cause.”

It is the first time that Breast Cancer Care has entered into a partnership with a local sports club.

Helen Cameron, area fundraiser, said: “We focus specifically on fundraising across South Yorkshire as that is where we deliver a lot of our services, so it is really wonderful to build a relationship with a club like Doncaster Rovers who can help support us spread the word about what we do and how we can help people affected by breast cancer.”

There are currently 10,500 people living with breast cancer across South Yorkshire.
