A WATERING hole was recently presented with a special award for being the district pub of the winter season.

The Haxey Gate, on the A161 just outside Misterton, received the prestigious honour thanks to Doncaster members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The pub impressed CAMRA judges after licensees Mark and Lynne Mason made it a success with anglers from the nearby River Idle and members of Misterton Golf Club.

Parts of The Haxey Gate Inn date back to the 16th century and the Masons have run the pub since 2007.
