Campaign to spot cancer

NHS Doncaster

NHS Doncaster

FEELING bloated most days for three weeks or more is the focus of a new pilot NHS campaign to increase the public’s awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.

Launched under the Be Clear on Cancer banner, the campaign encourages women with the key symptoms to see their doctor.

Despite 90 women in Doncaster dying from ovarian cancer between 2006 and 2010, persistent bloating can be a symptom they put up with rather than seek medical advice.

This campaign is calling on women to be aware of the key symptoms and see their doctor if they have any of them.

Dr Gillian Harding, NHS Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group’s cancer lead, said: “It is very important for women to be aware of ovarian cancer symptoms. The earlier the disease is diagnosed the sooner treatment can begin and the better the chances of survival. My message to Doncaster women is clear - if you feel bloated, most days, for three weeks or more, tell your doctor.”
