Bars set to lose bid for town taxi rank

PUBS and bars in Bawtry look to have lost a bid for the town’s own taxi rank.

Pubwatch Scheme members are keen to see a rank established to benefit the day and night time economy but Bawtry Town Council has concluded the current traffic regulation order does not allow provision for such a facility.

Councillors also fear there would be considerable wear and tear to the surface of Market Hill if the rank was located there, and additional costs would be incurred in providing taxi marshals.

Meanwhile, the council has decided to increase the charging time on the Excel Parking Services-managed Market Hill pay and display car park from 8pm to 10pm.

After an in-depth discussion at their monthly meeting, councillors agreed to the two-hour extension starting in November.
